Creating Surfaces with 3D-MC

Within 3D-MC the operator can create several types of simple surfaces, allowing them to utlize 3D control for small projects where 3D designs are not available.

Creating New Surfaces

  • Under the Surface Tab Selecting "New" will display a variety of available surfaces that can be created directly on the machine.

Surface Types

Within 3D-MC an operator can create six different types of Surfaces.

  • Flat Plane Surface:  A flat plane surface will have no slope and can be created from an existing point in a point file or by placing the machine's cutting implement on a specific elevation.
  • Sloping Plane Surface:  A sloping plane surface can have a single- or dual-slope, and can be created from existing points in a point file, or by placing the machine's cutting implement on specific locations on the site to define the slope(s).
  • Crown Road Surface:  For a crown road surface the operator will define a centerline by selecting existing points from a points file or use the cutting implement to define the centerline.  From there, the operator will define cross fall from the crown.
  • Triangulated Surface from Topo Survey:  A triangulated surface from topo survey allows the operator to create a TIN from points in a layer.
  • Raise/Lower Existing Surface:  Any existing surface can have its elevation raised or lowered.
  • Subgrade of Existing Alignment:  Subgrade of existing alignment is an advanced surface creation feature which allows an operator to modify an existing alignment.
