UAS Preparation - External Base NTRIP Setup
- To provide RTK corrections to the UAV from a real time reference station network via NTRIP, this requires 2x separate wireless connections on the user’s PC.
- One wireless connection will be used to communicate to the WLAN Connector and UAV as normal.
- The second wireless connection will be used to stream RTK corrections over the internet from the reference station network to the UAV.
- The second wireless connection will be connected to a local Wi-Fi network (if available) or a more commonly in the field a wireless hotspot from a mobile phone.
- Typically, an External Base NTRIP setup will require the use of an external USB Wi-Fi adapter (not included with the UAS) in order to provide the second wireless connection required for the user’s PC.
- Place the UAV under open sky GNSS conditions.
- Open MAVinci Desktop. Create/Open a session.
- Power on the WLAN Connector and UAV.
- Connect to the WLAN Connector and UAV in MAVinci Desktop.
-
Allow the UAV to track GNSS satellites for approximately 10-15 minutes.
- Note that a GNSS Position on the UAV is required to connect to a reference station network via NTRIP.

- Using the second wireless connection, confirm the user’s PC is connected to the internet via Wi-Fi.
- In the MAVinci Desktop session, select the External RTCM Connections option. On the RTCM Source connection section, select NTRIP.
- Under the Account section, select New.
-
Enter in the following NTRIP connection information:
- IP address or hostname of the NTRIP server.
- TCP/IP Port of the NTRIP server.
- Username and password for the NTRIP server.

- Next to the stream field, select Browse to query the NTRIP sourcetable. A list of available NTRIP mount points will appear.
- Select an NTRIP mount point that is streaming RTCM 3.x RTK corrections. Once finished, select Ok.
- Under the Account section, select Connect to begin streaming RTK corrections from the reference station network.

-
Once connected to the reference station network via NTRIP, confirm the following:
- Receiver status shows as connected.
- Number of bytes skipped is not counting upwards.
- Confirm all the required RTCM 3 messages (1004, 1005, 1006, 1007, 1008, and 1012) are being received and display as green.

- Return to the Map View.
- Confirm in the UAS status information that the UAV reports an RTK Fixed solution.
